It’s Official!

It is official…. I am registered for the Houston Marathon! Registration opened Friday morning and Dad got us registered first thing. It is a good thing he did because as of this evening the Houston Marathon is sold out!! They capped registration at 11,000 people for both the full marathon and half marathon. I can’t believe that 22,000 people will be running the race in January! Dad and I are 2 of them!

Here is a recap of this past week. It was a great week of some great runs! It seemed like every time I ran I was able to get in the “zone” and felt like I could keep going for a while. I had to hold myself back which is not like me. I ran 26 and a half miles this week! This morning I got up early and ran 9 miles! I had planned to run 8 but felt good and decided to add an extra mile. I will take tomorrow off and hit the road again on Tuesday. This week will be busy as we get ready to go to Florida on Vacation. I am looking forward to running on the beach and in a new place!

Beautiful Mornings

With the temperature rising above 100 degrees for the last week I decided I would start running in the mornings. If you know me well, you know that I am not a morning person but if I was going to get a run in at all I was going to have to try running in the mornings. I have to admit that I Love it! The mornings have been absolutely beautiful! I have also found that I love getting it out of the way and enjoying the evenings with Stuart. In the past I have had to plan dinner around when I was going to run and anything else we wanted to do that evening. When I run in the mornings I dont have to worry about all that.

Last week (Monday through Sunday) I logged 22 miles! The most I have run in a week in a while but it felt great.

This week I took Sunday off and ran 5 miles monday night and 6 miles this morning. My legs and feet are a little tired feeling but other than that I feel great. I have been having problems with blisters on one foot but hopefully as I continue to add miles I will build a callus and it will stop blistering. Otherwise I might need a new shoe that has a bigger toe box (the end of the shoe where your toes are). We will see.

Keep running!

Smoothie Recipes

Here are 2 Smoothie Recipes that I LOVE! These are great for lunch, a snack or a great post-run treat! Let me know what you think!

Strawberry Banana
1 cup plain nonfat yogurt
1 banana add to shopping list
1/2 cup orange juice
6 frozen strawberries
Pour all ingredients in the blender and blend for 30 seconds and Enjoy!

Tutti-Frutti Smoothie
1/2 cup loose-pack mixed frozen berries or strawberries
1/2 cup canned crushed pineapple in juice
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup sliced ripe banana
1/2 cup orange juice
Put all ingredients into the blender and blend. Enjoy!
I usually double this recipe and put it in the fridge for breakfast the next morning or a post-run treat! This is my fav and its only about 140 calories!!

Why did I eat all that food this weekend?

Last night I went out for a 6 mile run. This was the longest I had run in a while. It was a beautiful night. A little windy and humid but not to bad.┬áRan the first mile as a warmup at a slow pace and then picked it up at mile 2. Close to mile 3 I started to really feel all the apple pie and ice cream I ate this weekend. I was hurting! I felt like I had an extra 50 pounds hanging on to me. I got to mile 5 and thought about quitting but kept telling myself “what is one more mile?” So I pushed through and ran the last mile faster than any other mile!

6 miles in 1:02:25

I am feeling good today and ready for an easy 3 mile run tonight. (“Easy”- slower pace, I doubt it will actually be easy after last nights run, but I am looking forward to it!

See you on the road!

Biggest in Texas

I know I have not posted in a while. I have been running a few times a week but nothing serious. Sunday was my 23rd birthday. It was a wonderful day! I got to spend the whole day with Stuart! That morning my dad and youngest sister completed a sprint triathlon! I am so proud of them! It was a huge accomplishment! It got me thinking about my next race.

Stuart and I had lunch with my family and my dad handed me a card. I opened it to find 3 coupons. They read “One full entrance fee to the Houston Marathon, January 17, 2010.” “Two nights stay for two at the ‘In at the Ballpark’ in downtown Houston… just steps from the starting line.” “Personal pacer to guarantee your goal finish time (with a picture of my dad).”
Houston here I come!

Looks like we will be heading to the biggest city in Texas in January for the Chevron Houston Marathon. Dad is going to train me and be my pacer. I am so excited. Now I am really motivated to build my mileage and be ready to officially start training in September or October.

I have done well so far by running every day for the past few days. I do so much better running when I have a goal. My goal…. January 17, my first full marathon!!
